I AM DIGESTING
I am sitting here in the postprandial haze of a gustatorial high, having made Gratitudesque spring rolls. I say esque because they didn’t turn out quite like the way the Gratitude Cafe makes them, but they were still remarkably tasty. I made I AM (reasonably) INSIGHTFUL rolls with what I had in the fridge - avocado, tomato, cucumber, mango, and sprouts inside a wrap of collard greens. I didn’t have the recipe for their basil almond dipping sauce, so I improv’d. Instead I made their “cheese” - blended brazil nuts, garlic and salt, and sprinkled it over the veggies before rolling it up.
Wow. I AM GOOOOOOOD. Dayum! This is actually tasty! And now I’m following it up with steamed kale, zucchini and sunburst squash glazed in Yumm sauce. I AM DAYUM GOOD! (And yes, I know steamed vegetables aren’t raw, but I’m not a raw foodist, per se. So if you feel the need to tell me I’m murdering enzymes, go juice yourself.)
…A postscript..
Since I’m blogging about it now, I realize it probably would have been nice to take a picture of the homemade spring rolls, but a) I’m afraid of my digital camera (long story), b) I suck at wrapping stuff (be it sushi, burritos or holiday presents) and the roll rebelled, fell apart, dribbled down my chin, hands, skirt, cat, street, and so c) I gobbled that sucker down and the one that followed it like a Hoover.
So I’ll work on presentation (and chewing). It was a really good feeling, having made and eaten something so totally delicious AND good for me. I mean, I could show you a picture of the spring roll, but it’s like an orgasm. You really have to have one yourself.
