Black, black, black is the color of…
Status update: Dave is fully recovered from surgery and resultant coma and is resting at home, getting ready for Thanksgiving. The first boyfriend’s energy is gone, thankfully. I guess he figured he wasn’t going to get any birthday presents from me.
And now me. Our new sideshow on the trip of life is: Possible Ulcerations of the Stomach and Small Intestine! Complete with congealed blood! Woohoo!
I was only trying to fend off a virus that’s going around with a routine colonic. And it helped reduce the sniffles and lethargy, but something was amiss. At first I wasn’t sure what I was seeing coming out of the colonic tube, because blood is usually red, and what appeared before me looked like dirt. Now I may eat a lot of strange things, but dirt is not one of them, and it puzzled me as to what this could be.
In colonic school, everyone is usually fairly healthy, and so our experience with anything untoward is limited. I had heard the cautions about “black, tarry stool” before, but I thought the texture would be more akin to molasses, not potting soil. And this wasn’t stool; it was much heavier than it, hence it didn’t fly through the tube with the greatest of ease. It just sat there.
So when I had a casual conversation with a naturopath about “a patient” pooping out this strange sediment, she said that “my patient” should hightail it to the doctor, stat. However, in today’s world, stat means next Tuesday.
So I’ve been waiting around for this appointment, where they are probably going to just send me home to do a rather vomitous Fecal Occult Blood Test, pronounce me with either a peptic or duodenal ulcer, and then tell me I should reduce the stress in my life. Because every time I feel the pain in my stomach I get so relaxed.
If what I have is actually an ulcer, it feels like a slow, gnawing burn throughout my upper digestive regions. Not exactly the most comfortable feeling; in fact, it is downright unpleasant. I only wish this could ameliorate it.
